Institute of Modern Physics, Fudan University and Department of Physics, Korea University Sign Subsidiary Agreement for Cooperation
On December 22, 2025, to promote comprehensive academic exchange and cooperation between the Institute of Modern Physics at Fudan University (FDU) and the Department of Physics at Korea University (KU), the two institutions successfully held the "FDU-KU Mini Symposium on Physics." During the event, the two institutions signed a subsidiary agreement to comprehensively deepen educational, academic exchange, and cooperation.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Deqing Fang, Director of the Institute of Modern Physics at Fudan University, and Professor Suyong Choi, Head of the Department of Physics at Korea University, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Based on the university-level cooperation agreement already established between the two universities in 2022, this agreement aims to further promote substantive international collaboration through various means such as researcher exchanges, regular academic activities, and joint postgraduate training. Professor Yugang Ma, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Fudan University, attended the seminar and expressed his full support for strengthening cooperation between the two sides. He emphasized that this exchange event would serve as an important starting point for consolidating the fundamental scientific research capabilities of both institutes and expanding international research collaboration.
The seminar was structured into two academic exchange sessions. The first session, chaired by Professor Chengping Shen, delved into the current research landscape in nuclear physics at both universities. Professor Byungsik Hong, former Vice President of the Korean Physical Society, introduced the scientific achievements of Korea University in nuclear physics and outlined prospective directions for future collaborative research. The second session, chaired by Professor Baoren Wei, focused on cutting-edge physics topics such as precision measurements of the Higgs boson and dark matter detection, during which participants shared the latest research progress.
In addition to academic exchange, the symposium also featured a cultural exchange segment. Dr. Cheng Gaoyun from the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Fudan University delivered a lecture titled "Millennial Echoes of Pottery: Technological Exchange Between China and Korea in Ceramic Traditions." The lecture offered profound insights by re-examining the history of science and technology from a cultural perspective.
Marking the beginning of this collaboration, the Institute of Modern Physics at Fudan University and the Department of Physics at Korea University have agreed to hold joint academic exchange activities at least once a year. The two sides will continue to work closely together, striving to produce world-class research outcomes in fundamental disciplines such as nuclear physics and high-energy physics.
The success of this event was attributed to the meticulous planning and coordination of the co-organizers, Professor Chengping Shen, Professor Daekyoung Kang, and Professor Suyong Choi, who played crucial bridging roles in connecting the research teams of the two institutes.
