报告简介:The Jacobi shape transition, an abrupt change of shape from non-collective oblate to collective triaxial or prolate shape above a critical spin in nuclei, is also expected to occur in a nucleus while this was initially thought of in connection with rotating gravitational objects. These type shape transition has been observed earlier in 45Sc, 46Ti, 47V nuclei etc. Recently, for the first time, we observed the Jacobi shape transition in very light mass nucleus 31P using high energy gamma rays from the decay of giant dipole resonance (GDR) as a probe. In addition, a self-conjugate α-cluster nucleus 28Si was populated at similar initial excitation energy and angular momentum, which exhibits a vastly different GDR lineshape. Considering the present results for 28Si and similar observation recently reported in 32S, it is proposed that the nuclear orbiting phenomenon exhibited by α-cluster nuclei hinders the Jacobi shape transition. The present experimental results suggest a possibility to investigate the Exotic Nuclear Shape due to Cluster Formation at High Angular Momentum and high temperature using the GDR as a probe.
