报告摘要:

Nuclear strong force and Van der Waals force for the molecular interaction have similar characteristic nature, a hard core and attractive force at large distances. When they are scaled properly, their become very similar. One of the results from the Van der Waals interaction in the molecular physics is phase transition, from solid to liquid and liquid to vapor. The ground state nucleus is well described by the liquid drop model, indicating that the nucleus is in liquid phase at the ground state. From the resemblance between Van der Waals and nuclear interaction, when the nucleus is heated up, a nuclear liquid-gas phase transition was predicted more than a half century ago. We have been working on the nuclear phase transition for the last 40 years and recently we established a way to observe the nuclear phase transition. I will give an overview of our 40 years research in nuclear liquid-gas phase transition.
